About PSA...
Officer Rick Benson and Detective Michel Carroll of the Fort Worth Police Department are actively working to educate citizens about factors that can help reduce their risk of becoming the target of a violent personal assault.
Victims of violent personal crimes often know their attacker. Therefore, it is believed that better situational awareness can affect a person’s daily activities and with whom they associate.
Nationally, over 90% of female homicide victims knew their attacker and 100% of domestic violence cases are committed by suspects known to the victim.
This program offers tools to help women recognize abusive or predatory behavior in order to avoid relationships with potential violent offenders and react to signs of potential violence in current relationships.
The presentation is designed to impact women ages 17 and older, and can be scheduled for civic groups, employers or police agencies. Approximately 90 minutes is needed to properly present the program. A longer, 4 hour version of the presentation is also available upon request. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or to schedule a presentation.
Based on case studies and actual offender characteristics, topics of discussion include:
- Reduce the risk of being a victim of a violent assault
- Who is a predator or attacker? Myth vs. Reality
- Signals to watch for when encountering a stranger / new acquaintance
- Dating Relationships. Warning signals and potential dangers
- Risk factors that may increase the chances of a violent personal assault
- Drug/Alcohol facilitated sexual assaults
